Our Welcome Mat

All our lives we have been planning family get-togethers or parties. We come by it naturally. Our grandmothers and mother enjoyed entertaining, cooking and planning large family meals. Our paternal grandmother always had Sunday dinners after church with plenty of room at the table for guests. She was a wonderful cook, and her meals are legendary. Our maternal grandmother was a great cook as well. She usually entertained smaller groups, but as a hostess, she was legendary, too. Whether having friends for dinner, guests in for a night of bridge and light refreshments, or friends over for cookies and coffee, her welcome mat was always out.

Since hospitality is a part of our heritage, we naturally found our way into the kitchen as young girls. Mother allowed us to take part in meal preparation and also encouraged us to help her plan parties and entertain.

Through the years we have been professional caterers, but our love is still entertaining family and friends. So, in that style, we sisters would like to share with you some of our favorite recipes and ways to entertain.

Whether you’re having a neighbor in for snacks, a large Christmas open house or a formal sit-down dinner, entertaining can be a great experience. There are numerous reasons to entertain. New Year’s Eve, Christmas, Thanksgiving, 4th of July, Memorial Day and Easter all make for great parties and wonderful memories.

Special occasions might include birthdays, weddings, baby showers, anniversaries, graduations, bar mitzvahs or retirements.

Super Bowl parties, block parties, the World Series, game nights, bar-b-ques and hayrides are great casual fun for friends and family.

After concerts, theatre or movies, have friends in for Just Desserts. This is the perfect time to try a sweet and lavish new recipe.

Regardless of the kind of party or event, making your guests feel welcome and comfortable is the key to hospitality. Whether your style is casual and relaxed or more formal, you can still make your guests feel welcome.
